An old Aboriginal traditionally crafted and Rare Bean Wood Shield from the Central Desert region of NT.

It has the classic longitudinal flutes and a generous handle and is fully painted in ochre.

This shield is obviously a narrower variation to the traditional broader fluted bean wood shields of the Central Desert.  Its narrow shape lends itself to be of the parrying variety. It is a light, beautifully crafted piece.

This was collected pre 1950's in the NT and held in a Private English collection till purchased back into Australia 15 years ago and held in my collection till now.

Length 810mm

Width at the handle 140mm
