This case is designed to accommodate the widely available Nokia BL-5C type battery. 

It has a rugged appearance and comes with pin connectors that act as contacts and they are also pre-tensioning the battery to keep it in place (an example of Nokia ingenuity)

Before the pin block is glued in place, the wires must be soldered.

The V3 board battery management system was highly optimized, and it is recommended to be uses with a internal battery.
