"The Horse and His Rider" is a 226 page (plus 32 pages of publishers ads), 5"x7.75" hardcover written by Sir Francis B. Head and published in 1860 by John Murray (London). It's a treatise on horsemanship, with a significant amount of material devoted to hunting.

The book is in acceptable condition. The purple cloth boards show various stains and smudges, tears and loss at the spine ends, bubbling to the cloth at back bottom, sunning to the spine. The back cover and nearby pages curve in at the top corner. The front hinge is mostly cracked. There's a bookseller label (Mann Nephews, Booksellers and Stationers, 39 Cornhill, London) to the front pastedown, along with a small pencil mark. There's a binders label and small pencil mark to the back pastedown, ownership mark to the ffep, small pencil marks to the next two flyleaves. The interior is age-toned. The ffep is creased down the middle, and pages at the front half of the book are bent at the top corner. There's a small bump to the text block's side affecting several pages towards the back.
