Here are three extremely rare artifacts from the crash of the USAF's First YB-49 Flying Wing Bomber serial number 42-10368 which crashed very near to Mojave, California and Muroc Army Airfield from where it took off an air testing mission. The date was 6-5-48 and when it was subjected to a stall-spin maneuver instead of falling off on one wing and spinning it started tumbling end over end until it crashed. The Co-pilot on the mission was named Glenn Edwards who along with the rest of the crew perished. Since he was a California native and had given his life in service of his nation, The Air Force re-named Muroc Army Airfield to Edwards Air Force base. After the tragic loss of the YB-49 it was essentially dropped from the competition for a new heavy bomber. Decades later the Northrop B-2 Stealth Flying Wing bomber was adopted and has been used effectively in most all conflicts the U.S. has been involved in but its direct antecedent was the YB-49. You can buy these precious artifacts from it and give them as a most unique gift or add them to you collection. Please check out the rest of our listings as well - Thanks.
