It's offered for your attention the foot stirrups for the suit "Penguin" which is used by Soviet and Russian cosmonauts to train muscles while weakening their bodies in orbit in zero gravity. The stirrups are made of the strong Soviet nylon fabric called "aviazent" what is widely used in aviation and cosmonautics. They have soft inserts from the inner side for comfortable feeling when pushing them by feet. The stirrups are attached to the legs of the "Penguin" training space suit using four metal loops sewn with strong threads along the edges. The design of the "Penguin" suit is intended to create an axial load on the cosmonaut's locomotor functions and skeletal musculature, as well as additionally reduce the adverse effect of weightlessness during long-term flights in space. It is a load-bearing suit consisting of a set of elastic elements that create an axial load on the skeletal muscles plus a load on the muscular system of the legs and body torso, as well as an external decorative layer. Elastic elements are attached together with fabric and tape ties with buckles designed for adjustment of both load increment and load intensity. Cosmonauts receive the necessary loading by overcoming the resistance of the elastic elements. The suit got its name due to a similar look to a penguin when the cosmonaut's body is in a crouched position during its use. Provenance. The stirrups have been taken from family of one of the members of AMKOS (Association of Cosmonautics Museums in Russia). After his death in 2011, the stirrups were kept by the family members, who were not aware of their intention and wanted to waste them.CONDITION - undamaged and perfect looking. Please see the photos.
