Back caption reads,
"CAHIR CASTLE (mainly fifteenth century), a splendid pile in excellent
preservation, is the largest of its kind in Ireland. It has a massive keep,
high enclosing walls, spacious courtyards and hall. Permission to enter
can be obtained from the Cahir Estate Office. 
Erected in 1142 by Conor O'Brien, Prince of Thomond, this castle came
into the possession of the Anglo-Norman Butlers when James, 3rd Earl
of Ormonde, was granted the lands of the district in 1375."
