Condition:  SEE IMAGES.  This vintage pulp is in solid GOOD++ to VERY GOOD copy. There is light toning to page edges, but no brittleness, and pages are easily and comfortably flippable.  Over 40 years old, this issue is not pristine or flawless.  Light edge wear.  Pen marking to front cover, otherwise no other markings.  Binding is tight and boxed, with no detachments.  The covers have soft corners/tips, and minor scuffing/fading to the spine, but still overall a nice, bright presentable copy.  Preserved in an acid-free archival bag.  Please feel free to ask any questions or request additional pictures.

About: Laid in is a newspaper clipping with a review of the final published book Jem.  This issue carries part 1 in the serialization of that title.  Final line of the review: Oswald Spengler in space.  In the letters section, there is a lengthy letter by Harlan Ellison as well as others writing in ABOUT him.  Also, Gregory Benford is a contributor in the letters section as well.

Fun Fact 1: Harlan Ellison had a wildly prolific career that spanned near 7 decades.  Acknowledge for his powerful influence in the New Wave Speculative Fiction genre, he also wrote screenplays, teleplays, stories, television episodes especially known for his contribution with a popular Star Trek episode.  His Dangerous Visions anthologies are well-regarded collections, with an almost cult-like following.  He was widely known to be combative, abrasive, quite litigious, and he did not shy away from this.  He has won over 50 different awards, with another near 100 nominations.

Fun Fact 2: Jerry Pournelle was part of a Council with other authors, astronauts and notables who were influential in the space policy of Ronald Reagan and the SDI program.  This council was called Citizens’ Advisory Council on National Space Policy.

Fun Fact 3: Frederik Pohl had a career that spanned 75 years.  His first poem was published in 1937, and articles & essays as late as 2012, before his passing in 2013.  He has won many awards as well as having been nominated over 100 times.  He was editor of both Galaxy and If, which under his leadership both publications rose to prominence in the science fiction genre.  For a period of time, Frederik Pohl was THE authority on the subject of Emperor Tiberius, for Encyclopedia Britannica.

Works by:

Galaxy Science Fiction was a magazine digest that ran from 1950 until 1980.  In the final year, only 1 issue was published.  It was revived again for a brief 8 issues in 1994-95.  Galaxy was a French-Italian publishers attempt at getting a foothold in the American market.  Originally, it focused largely on stories around social issues as opposed to technology.  Galaxy, nearly from inception and under the editorship of Horace Gold followed by Frederik Pohl, became one of the leading science fiction magazines, greatly influencing and expanding the genre.  It boasted Horace Gold, Frederik Pohl, Willy Ley, Theodore Sturgeon, Lester del Rey, Judy Lynn and others on the editorial and department leadership.  It was only with the 1969 resignation of Frederik Pohl from editorship that prominence began to wane until it was ultimately cancelled in 1980.  Publishing the works of visionary greats such as Ray Bradbury, Harlan Ellison, Robert Silverberg, Jack Vance, Frank Herbert, Robert Henlein, Ursula K. Le Guin, Willy Ley, Larry Niven and many other greats, Galaxy greatly influenced the field of science fiction.

I will happily answer any further questions.

Making offers: I certainly can appreciate wanting a better deal, and I've made offers myself on my own purchases.  To be up front, if and when you make an offer, I will automatically reject crazy low "give it away" offers.  Best not to waste our time.  With a more reasonable offer, I will review current pricing for other comparable items out there and either accept, counter or decline submitted offer.  If in that review, I find my pricing is already LOW and outdated, I may then increase the price to bring more in line with other offerings.  I spend a lot of time sourcing the best offerings, preparing the listings with images and clear descriptions, and price fairly in MOST cases.

I remain grateful to all who consider my offerings, and I look forward to serving your needs respectfully and with success.
