This is an interesting and Unusual Antique Old American Folk Art Cowboys & Indians Western Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a standoff or meeting between two Native Americans on horseback, and two cowboys atop their horses. This painting is rendered in a self-taught, naïve American Outsider Folk Art style, and likely dates to the 1930's - 1940's. Titled and signed on the verso: "The Indian...Hebert Lyons." I could not find any biographical information on this fascinating American Folk Artist; however, I did discover another painting by Lyons, which is also on eBay, from a dealer in New Hampshire. Perhaps you know more about the artist or their work? This painting is housed in a whimsical and unique hand-made wooden frame, which was painted a pale powder blue shade. The painting itself uses heavy brush strokes, with some textures rendered in heavy, near three-dimensional impasto. This piece likely dates to the 1930's - 1940's. Approximately 21 1/2 x 37 1/2 inches (including the edges of the eccentric wood frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 14 x 30 inches. Good condition for nearly a century of age and storage, with mild - moderate scuffing, edge wear and paint loss to the handmade wooden frame, and mild scuffing, paint loss, and craquelure to the painted surface (please see photos carefully.) Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks!
