The film tells about the fate of one of the most controversial figures in the history of Ukraine, about a man who changed the course of history, and made his country independent. This film is about the great hetman of Ukraine, whose name is Bogdan Zinoviy Khmelnitsky. The story begins in 1647, and shows the period of the uprising of the Ukrainian Cossacks against the Polish gentry. But the main line of the plot is not the insurrection itself, but the tragic love of Bogdan Khmelnyky to the young Polish Helen.
