We love it - but it doesn’t suit our modern house, apart from which it is a statement piece and needs room to display it properly.

Overall height - 39”

Overall width - 12½”

Dial diameter - 10”

Above the barometer dial is a Fahrenheit-only alcohol thermometer engraved John East, London.

If you open the door at the back, you can see that the instrument is entirely original and unmolested. The pressure indicating hand is adjusted from within.

The case appears to be walnut. The finish is slightly faded in places; it could be re-polished back to its original splendour, but to do so would take away around 150 years of its history. If you do go down that route, take care to ensure the barometer is upright at all times.

The imposing bezel is brass, the pressure indicating hand is blued steel, the pressure history hand is brass as is the dial which is finely etched with black indexing and lettering. The flat glass is… err… glass. The history pointer is manually adjusted with an ivory-coloured wheel.

This instrument is for collection only from EX12, and - as you are probably aware - it must be transported upright.
