Poetry collection penned by a Chester Scoutmaster and soldier during the hiatus between the death of Edward VII and the beginning of World War I.
Verse in this scarce book (not in library hub nor Worldcat / OCLC) by a self-described “nonentity” reflects popular contemporary talking points including The Titanic (pp7-10), and the death of polar explorer Captain Scott (p11).
It was probably intended for a limited readership and printed (as per author’s prelim statement) “on a very small scale”.
Bound in full soft textured leather, tilting in original gilt, overhanging yapp edges, around four inches by 5.5 tall (circa 110 x 145 mm if you prefer).
First and only edition printed for the Author, (likely by J W Sykes of Chester, Cheshire).
Provenance: from author’s dedication and signed photograph loosely laid in [as photos, above], and subsequent corresponding textual emendations [as photos, below]. Although interior condition is overall good, because this original letterpress book is more than 100 years old, it does display trivial signs of use and age — such as the usual discolouration to old paper — consistent with a printed object of this vintage. All 68 pp main text are complete √ and otherwise correct.
