Unrestored, original, antique condition as shown. This is an original, antique (probably from around 1900/1910) professionally made ventriloquist figure that would have been used in a pro vent act by one of the top British makers. I have attributed it to Alfred Lemare but welcome any comments or advice.

Three movements - open/close mouth, sneer, and right eye wink. The wink is a little laboured but will loosen up with use. Head is of papier mache and wood construction with kid leather lower jaw movement and eye lids; wig and clothes are obviously not original; body is guaranteed to be the original. Talking of the body, wow! This is the most over engineered, original body I have ever seen on a period ventriloquist figure. There is a brass handle secreted inside the body that allows the operator to lift the right arm to any level above his head (including swinging it right round) or back behind himself; the legs, waist and neck are all intricately constructed to make lots of little movements and allow ease of control; the neck dip has a spring action that can be released or removed - it's just lovely. There are no feet but extending one leg slightly and adding shoes would not be a mammoth task.

Seated, that is from waist to top of head, he is approx 22" and would be around 37" once fitted with one bottom part of leg and boots.

The last photo shows the other vent figure I have listed (a Herbert Brighton figure) and a Len Insull Jnr. small size vent figure that I am keeping for my own collection. Please take info from photographs or message me for any clarification.
