This is a visually striking and expressive Vintage Asian Modern Vietnamese Impressionist Landscape Painting, Watercolor on Paper, by esteemed Hoi An, Vietnam Modernist painter, Hoang Trong Tien (b. 1958.) This artwork depicts a stirring and colorful rural landscape scene, with small cottages, a winding path, and several trees which are rendered in a highly Impressionistic style, reminiscent of Vincent Van Gogh (1853 - 1890.) The sky above is painted in an ethereal and emotional manner, likening to Van Gogh's famed painting, The Starry Night (1889.) Signed: "Hoang Trong Tien" in the lower right corner. This is an early work by the artist, and likely dates to the mid to late 1970's. Approximately 16 7/8 x 20 7/8 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 15 x 18 3/4 inches. Very good condition for age, with some light yellowing and discoloration to the verso (please see photos.) Acquired from an old collection in Pasadena, California. "Victor and I were drawn to the paintings in Hoang Trong Tien's gallery, which is filled with works that he created from his imagination and feature 'pure' colors. Tien is incredibly friendly and jovial, and purchasing two paintings from him proved a delightful experience.

Hoi An appears to celebrate the arts, and there are many galleries.  I considered us very lucky to get to meet one of Vietnam's better-known artists."
