Introducing Roland's groundbreaking stride into the MIDI/Modular realm, the SDE-2500 stands as their inaugural MIDI Digital Delay, boasting an impressive array of 64 MIDI-controllable memories—a testament to their commitment to the future of music production.

Designed with the collaborative spirit of programmable synthesizers in mind, the SDE-2500 serves as a powerful signal processor, seamlessly enhancing synth programs with effects like chorus, flanging, and ADT. Its distinction lies in being the first MIDI-controllable Digital Delay with a complete set of 64 memories, aligning perfectly with the 64 patches commonly found in many polysynths. This feature elevates its appeal, especially to the MIDI synthesists within the community.

The SDE-2500 shares a familiar aesthetic with Roland's other programmable Digital Delay units—the SDE-1000 and the formidable SDE-3000. Housed in a standard 1U 19" rackmount unit, adorned with vibrant flashing LEDs and two alphanumeric displays, it conceals its connections discreetly on the rear panel.

For sound processing, all controls are programmable, including the output level of the delayed signal. The front panel features four programmable knobs—Feedback, Delay, Out, and Modulation Rate and Depth. Adjacent to the display is a versatile switch with dual functionality: adjusting the program number by depressing its top or bottom half, and serving as a MIDI On/Off/Omni switch.

The display itself is bifurcated into two sections. The left-hand two-digit display indicates the memory number, while the right-hand three-digit display showcases the current delay time in milliseconds.

This previously enjoyed unit, while showing signs of cosmetic wear, retains its full operational integrity, faithfully executing its intended functions.
