The third generation of the Ford Cortina was marketed starting in 1970. The choice of engines was quite wide: at the base of the range was the 57 horsepower 1298cc 4-cylinder, then there was the 1599cc (68hp) 4-cylinder and a 4 newly developed 1993cc (98hp) cylinders. A sports version was also made, the 1600GT, with a 1593cc 4-cylinder engine that developed 88hp at 5700 rpm. One of the major reasons for the success of the Cortina was that the car, over the course of the three generations, did not increase excessively in size: the length, for example, always remained the same.
