Antique Indian copper alloy three-piece standing Vishnu on base with detachable kirthimukha. This good-sized image of Vishnu standing has been cast as a single piece in copper alloy.
It has clear signs of age; a pleasing golden-brown patina; and light wear from puja rituals that have softened its contours but left its features intact. The figure of Vishnu has four arms. His principal right arm is in varada-mudra. The hand of his principal left arm rests on his side in a katyavalambita gesture. The two upper arms hold the conch shell and the disc. Vishnu wears various fine body ornaments including complex earrings; a dhoti cast with neat folds in high relief and a prominent tall crown. The figure stands on a superb dais that comprises two lotus platforms stacked on one another. The statue dismantles into 3 peices. Overall, it is a fine and well cast piece with a wonderful colour. Provenance: Collected between 1945-1960 International Bidders: All duties, customs and taxes responsibility of buyer |
