Galena thumbnail on antique display, Freiberg, ex. Krantz dealership with label

Characteristics: A thumbnail galena specimen made of stacked, lustrous, crystals, to 6 mm across, that form an intergrown cluster. From Freiberg, Saxony, Germany with historical provenance: It is accompanied by a Krantz label giving the different French-German-English names and dated from 1836 (or 1856?, on the back), as well as an unidentified old French label. It is glued on an antique stand, making it a highly aesthetic display specimen.

August Krantz (1808-1872) was a German mineralogist who founded a mineral dealership in 1833 in Freiberg while a student at Freiberg Mining Academy. By the mid 19^th century, he had become one of the foremost mineral dealers in Europe.
