canals, oil pipelines, cities, towns, and natural features in excellent
detail.

The coverage area extends from Formosa to the Timor Sea, between the
Andaman Islands and western New Guinea, including Vietnam, Thailand,
Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Taiwan
(Formosa).

The map was printed during the Vietnam War — one month after the
conclusion of Operation Rolling Thunder and one month before Richard M.
Nixon took office as the President of the United States.

It was published by the National Geographic Society in December
1968 as a supplement to The National Geographic Magazine.
