Vintage 1936 Rare Zenith Tombstone Black Ebony - 6S - 27.

Extremely rare original Ebony Lacquer finish with beautiful aged patina. The vast majority of these fine radios where purchased with the natural wood finish. The ebony finish cost extra and in 1936 many folks just didn’t have “extra”. This has been worked on years ago, see picture of the chassis. We used to play this once in a while but it has just been on display for a few years. It still works and pulls in WHAM 1180. I’m sure you should have another qualified tech go over this radio as adjustments are still needed such as the dial cord needs adjustment. The dial cord works just not well. Beautiful radio, its style and rarity should make it the center of your collection. There are no rips or tears in the grill cloth.

In answer to an observation made by a member of the ebay universe I did some additional research and came up with the following clarification to the ebony finish on this radio.

The following quote is from the Radiomuseum.org;

"The Zenith 6-S-27 is an AC operated 6 tube BC, SW and Police band receiver.A year or two later, definitely in 1938, possibly in 1937, Zenith would use the "Y" suffix to denote ebony variants of their radios.  However, there is no evidence they did so in the 1936 model year."

It measures about 22 1/2” tall x 12 1/4” deep x 16 3/8” wide.

I am trying to down size a little so it is time to let this go.

I think the photos say it all as they are part of the description and show any damage there may be.
