Kostis Palamas (Greek: Костис Паламас; 13 January [O.S. 8 January] 1859 – 27 February 1943[1]) was a Greek poet who wrote the words to the Olympic Hymn. He was a central figure of the Greek literary generation of the 1880s and one of the cofounders of the so-called New Athenian School (or Palamian School, or Second Athenian School) along with Georgios Drosinis and Ioannis Polemis.

The "Parakaira". As their name shows, it is something that is not related to the weather around us. These songs, some I originally wrote and others I first collected here, as if I wanted, temporarily putting aside some other cares, to rest; as if I wanted, focused on myself, to look at myself, to calculate my strength, to then take my breath, according to with my desire. At the same time, I baptized them both from the themes of most of them that entangle them and from the general tone that characterizes them; and if you want, from some idea like philosophical irony, or even artistic coquetry; features that often distinguish our female-minded race.
