Anne Beate’s History

Anne Beate’s mother had a lovely little shop called Klods Hans. The shop sold handicrafts and other beautiful items. It was conveniently located in Odense, right across from H.C. Andersen’s house. And actually, it’s still there to this day.

One autumn day in 1963, Anne Beate came home and found her mother on the sofa with a stack of magazines. “I think you’re bored, my dear. I need someone to make some fairies - it’s just the thing for you,” her mother said. Anne Beate replied, “But I can’t do that - I’ve never made fairies before.”

“Nonsense! You can do anything you set your mind to!” her mother insisted. And that settled the matter!

The first 40-50 fairies were definitely nothing to brag about. Anne Beate shed many brave tears and claimed she would never learn it. But after those initial difficult attempts, it was as if the fairies themselves pitched in. And they’ve been doing so ever since… It was almost like a real fairy tale.
