The name Caltagirone derives from the Arabic term Qal?at al Ghiran, which means ?Rock of the Vases ?.

The manufacturing of ceramics in the Caltagirone area dates back to the Neolithic. 

The imprint of the various peoples who have colonized the Sicily over the centuries it is also perceived in the processing of ceramics, despite this, the ceramists in their art have always brought out the Sicilian spirit.

The art of working Sicilian ceramics has been handed down from generation to generation.
