The M1949 leather gloves were often called "Recon gloves" by troops in Vietnam as they were very popular by reconnaissance personnel such as LRRPs as they gave good protection from thorns and vines. The trigger finger or all the fingers where sometimes cut off to allow unimpeded use of weapons and radios.
