Huge Antique Mourning Cameo Hair Comb, Celluloid Black Pierced Floral w/ Large Cameo w/ Wheat, Ribbons, in Blackened Brass Raised Scalloped Setting. This comb is in excellent condition. The cameo has a few age related mars that can only be seen close up.
She is very Regal. Wi/th Wheat & ribbons in her Curly hair. All in black, she wearss earrings.
Beautiful antique Victorian Edwardian Hair Tall & Wide mantilla or Spanish comb. I added Antique black dark Celluloid cameo in raised scalloped blackened brass setting. Some of the brass color peeps through making the scallops stand out better.
In Spain, a peineta is a large decorative comb usually worn high on head under a mantilla, or lace head covering, a veil worn over the head and shoulders. The mantilla is also a common element of some Valencian and Andalusian flamenco costumes.
This comb is 7 1/2" Tall & 5 1/4" wide!
The antique black cameo is also nearly a100 years old. Comb & cameo are in good condition, (or zoom pictures). The Cameo measures 2 & 1/2" x 2" x raised 1 1/4".
Lots of possibilities for wearing, including a bun or hair piece. The Spanish Dancers wore such a comb high above an elaborate hair do and they were very popular in 1875. This comb will require a lot of hair to hold it up.
This is a lovely antique display on wall. Just put 2 nails in wall for top of 2 outside tines, or plate hanger.
