This is a charming and lovely Antique Old 19th c. American Folk Art Sledding Winter Landscape Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a snowy woodland scene, on the outskirts of a small church. A full moon, and pinkish clouds are visible overhead, while a small church can be seen in distance. In the foreground, tall, barren trees, and a lone figure carrying a sled behind him can be seen. This artwork is not signed, however some illegible writing, and a date of "August 11" is written in graphite on the top stretcher bar of the verso. Perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? This oil painting likely originates from the Northeastern United States. Approximately 11 5/8 x 17 3/4 inches. Actual artwork is approximately 8 3/4 x 15 inches. This piece likely dates to the 1880's - 1890's. Good condition for age, with light scuffing, paint loss and edge wear to the original period vintage wood frame (please see photos.)
