Audi broke new ground when it released the first-generation R8 for 2008. Low and wide, the R8 benefitted from Audi's expertise in using aluminum to save weight, and it launched with a mid-mounted V8 engine -- the V10 arrived later. It shared several parts with the Lamborghini Gallardo, though it was a fundamentally different car. Production of the original R8 (called Type 42 internally) ended in 2015.
Power comes from a 5.2-liter V10, rated at 525 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. It spins the four wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission and Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system.
