Antique French Sterling Silver Sugar Tongs,

Lion’s Claw, Victor Boivin Master Silversmith

This exquisite pair of antique French sterling silver sugar tongs with “lion’s claw” style grips is designed in a pattern of crossed ribbons. It bears the French “Minerve Premier Titre” hallmark, indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838. It also bears the maker’s mark consisting of the initials “V” and “B” surrounding two stars and an upturned crescent. Victor Boivin, master silversmith in Paris during the 1890’s, was the son of Jules Boivin, master silversmith in Paris between 1862 to 1881. His workshop was taken over by the Maison Ravinet d'Enfert at the beginning of the twentieth century. This piece is in excellent condition with the exception of faint scratches due to great age and normal use. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page. This very elegant and authentically antique pair of sugar tongs will lend a true French atmosphere to your table.
