Vintage French Terracotta Santon from Provence 

Nativity Figurine, Woman with Water Jug, Signed Carbonel

This charming vintage French “santon” from Provence, made of terra cotta and hand painted, depicts a traditional character of the Provencal Nativity creche, a woman dressed in traditional costume and carrying on her head a red glazed water jug called a “gargoulette” in the south of France. The bottom is signed “Carbonel”, one of the most famous names in hand crafted santons in Provence. The Carbonel family established their workshop in the 1930's and it is still in existence.

This piece is in very good condition with the exception of signs of age on the surface. This santon will add a charming atmosphere of Provence to your own home or be an excellent addition to your collection or to your Nativity set. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
