Maker: On the reverse of this lovely scalloped cabinet plate is the red decorator's mark number 8 of Elite Works, also known as Bawo & Dotter, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. This mark was in use between 1891 and 1900, and it confirms that the Elite factory decorated the plate.

A small green white ware mark with the phrase "MG France Déposé" also appears. This is mark number 3 of Mavaleix. Paul Maurice Mavaleix produced fine porcelain that was usually decorated by other Limoges firms, as is the case here, from around 1908 until it closed sometime around 1938.

Design: The gold-edged plate features garlands of beautiful pink roses and green leaves against a background that fades from coral pink to cream. Its finely detailed work is in keeping with the exceptionally high quality that made Elite porcelain so famous and so coveted.

Size and weight: The plate is 8 1/4 inches wide and weighs 9.2 ounces.

Condition: The plate has no cracks, nicks, stains, utensil marks, crazing or significant wear. There is a chip on the edge that's shown in the photos with the penny. It's more prominent on the reverse but can be seen from the front. There is an old repair to the gold edge that was painted over; it too is shown in the photos with the penny. There is light wear to the edges and to the inner gold circle.

Despite the damage, this plate remains a very beautiful object and would complement any collection of fine porcelain.

Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
