Naturally occurring only in the wildflower paradise of south west Western Australia, Dryandras are a wonderfully varied group of plants. Close relatives of the Banksias, they are of much interest for the beauty of their foliage, striking flower heads and unusual habits and growth forms. As many come from low rainfall areas, they are especially useful for dry-country gardens.

This book is the first definitive guide to all

135 Dryandra taxa and the first to provide comprehensive information on growing them as garden plants. For each, it includes a botanical description, distribution maps. conservation status, habitat including climate information, and flowering period, as well as cultivation and propagation information.

To help with identification, over 320 superb colour photographs are included as well as line drawings of a leaf, fruit, seed and seedling.

All line drawings and maps are the work of Margaret Pieroni, one of Australia's most talented botanical artists.

Four preliminary chapters discuss the discovery and naming of Dryandras and the history of their cultivation; their biology and ecology: practical cultivation and propagation; and their scientific classification, including a key to all species.

The Dryandras is based on over twenty years of fieldwork by Margaret Pieroni and more than three decades of observations and horticultural experience by members of the Dryandra Study Group of the Australian Plants Society. It is the most complete guide yet published on this exceptional group of Australian plants.
