Great example of a Stephen Houghton & Son sovereign scale for weighing gold sovereigns and half sovereigns. Includes instructions and label indicating it was made by Houghton & Son, Successors to A. Wilkinson. Contained within a beautiful mahogany case. Scale automatically opens up when case is opened and the sovereign holder is then flipped over when in use. To close it up simply flip the sovereign holder over and close the case.

A very clever piece of engineering design used to ensure that the coins being used were the full weight they should be. In excellent, full working condition for an item that is about 200 years old.

When closed, the mahogany box measures 13.5 cm long, 3.7cm wide, and 1.8 cm thick.

I am a collector, primarily focussed on early victorian mechanical pencils and inkwells. I am currently selling off a few writing related, and other items acquired over the years that don't fit within my collection. I try to be as thorough as possible with my eBay listings pointing out any flaws or concerns with items that I list, so please be sure to read the full description, condition description, and view all images closely as they are also a key part of the description. If you have any questions please contact me.
