*** THIS IS A CUSTOM LISTING FOR A SPECIFIC CLIENT IN NEW YORK STATE. THIS LISTING IS DYNAMIC AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE ***
On offer is a diverse collection of five (5) rare items from the Koka Blå (Koka Blue) service:
- KA3 Casserole with lid (Gryta med lock): 1.2-liter capacity. 6 ¼ inches in diameter (16 cm); and 3 ½ inches in height (9 cm), unlidded.
- KA98 Large Serving Platter (Stort Uppläggningsfat): 16 inches x 10 ½ inches (40 x 27 cm)
- KA102 Large Baking Dish (Stor Ugnsform): 11 inches x 6 inches (28 x 16 cm) - sometimes referred to as a “Meatloaf Dish”
- KA94 Large Rectangular Vegetable Dishes (Stor Grönsaskfat): 15 ½ inches x 7 inches (39 x 18 cm) - 2 pieces
Debuting in 1956, the Koka Blue service was designed by Rörstrand’s Hertha Bengtson to be functional and beautiful – a heat-resistant, flameproof collection
of pieces that could easily go from “stovetop to tabletop” without the need for
additional serving dishes. Koka Blue was
so popular that later in the 1960s, the line was expanded to include variations
in brown (Koka Brun) and green (Koka Grön), the latter with much
more limited distribution.
Condition Report:
This collection is in excellent vintage condition. There is no apparent evidence of damage or repair to any item in this listing.
Each item in this listing is free of chips, fleabites, fissures, and serious discoloration or “burn marks” on their undersides, which can sometimes be found on “flameproof” serveware such as this. The glazing and abstract “leaf” motif is glossy and vibrant on each item, with only a few “pinholes” in the glaze found some of the pieces.
Casserole: There are several raised “pinpoints” and a few “pinholes” in the glaze noted on the band of glaze around the abstract leaf motif (an example of which can be seen in Picture 6). The interior is remarkably free of major utensil marks. The is one errant dot of blue ink noted on the base of the interior (Picture 7); and there is a small raised “crumb” that is glazed over noted on the upper interior sidewall. The is intact and unremarkable. The underside is clean but does show signs of wear around the perimeter. This item is numbered and stamped “KOKA Rörstrand Sweden EL-FAST 3.” [ SPECIAL PRICING: USD 100 ]
Large Serving Tray: The interior surface is clean and very few scratches are seen when the piece is held on an oblique tilt. A few “pinholes” in the glaze are noted on both the flat white interior and the flared blue sides. There is a noticeable errant ink smudge on one of the handles (captured in Picture 10). The underside is clean and unremarkable. This item is numbered and stamped “Rörstrand Sweden KOKA OVENPROOF 98,” and it has the "VDN-P555” designation, which means that this item is dishwasher-safe to 75 degrees Celsius. [ SPECIAL PRICING: USD 150 ]
Meatloaf Pan: The interior surface is clean and very few scratches are seen when the piece is held on an oblique tilt. A few “pinholes” in the glaze are noted on both the interior floor and sidewall. The blue band of glaze on the exterior is vibrant, but a few raised “pinpoints” in the glaze are evident when the piece is subjected to oblique lighting. The underside is clean and unremarkable. This piece is numbered and stamped “KOKA Rörstrand Sweden OVENPROOF UGLASDEK 102.” [ SPECIAL PRICING: USD 100 ]
Rectangular Vegetable Serving Dishes: The interior surfaces are clean, but oblique lighting does reveal several utensil scrapes on each piece. The interior blue bands of glazing — which were done by hand — are slightly darker in parts one dish, while the glazing is more uniform on the other dish. There are a few “pinpoints” noted in the glaze noted on both pieces. The undersides of both dishes are largely unremarkable, one dish does an errant spot of blue ink on the handle (Picture 15, 12 o’clock), while the other has a yellow spot of light discoloration near its backstamp (also Picture 15, 4 o’clock). Both pieces are numbered and stamped “Rörstrand Sweden KOKA OVENPROOF 94,” and they both have the "VDN-P555” designation, meaning that these items are dishwasher-safe to 75 degrees Celsius. [ SPECIAL PRICING: USD 175 ]
Shipping:
The listed shipping is for buyers in the contiguous United States. If you reside in Alaska or Hawaii, please contact me for a shipping quote. My auctions are currently closed to international customers, but if you reside outside the US and are interested in bidding, please reach out to me. (Please understand that I am not responsible for any duties or delays imposed by Customs in your country, and I cannot declare any items shipped to you for less than their sale price.)
Return Policy:
As a longtime buyer of vintage pottery, I understand that
disappointments sometimes happen. Terms
like “excellent” and “near mint” are subjective, meaning wildly different
things to different people. And it can
be difficult to agree on when “wear and tear consistent with age” has ventured
into the territory of actual damage.
Rather than quibble, if you
are dissatisfied with any item that you purchase from me, for any reason,
simply return it to me within 14 days in the condition in which it was sent,
and I will happily refund your money. I
will pay for return shipping costs, but regrettably, I cannot refund outbound
shipping and handling fees in such cases.
Of course, should an item sustain any damage during transit, you will receive a complete refund. (In the event
that a multi-item shipment sustains only partial damage, please contact me so
that we can work out a satisfactory solution.)
All I ask in return is that you document any damage, retain all packing
materials, and assist me during the claims process.
In my experience, the best transactions are ones where there
is open, honest communication on both sides.
My goal is to find happy homes for these treasures, with the hope that
they will bring their new owners as much joy as they’ve brought me.
About Me:
I have been an avid Blue Fire (Blå Eld) and Koka Blue (Koka Blå) collector for almost 20 years. I own over 400 pieces in each line, so if you are hunting for something in particular, please reach out to me – there’s a good chance that I have what you’re looking for. I absolutely love chatting with other Rorstrand enthusiasts!
Finally, don’t be afraid to ask questions. I’d rather be deluged with questions than to
have my buyers experience one drop of regret with any item that I sell.
