Original
lithographed fold-out antique chart of the mouth of the Columbia River,
printed more than 140 years
ago.
-
This map is based on a survey conducted under the direction of Major
George L. Gillespie, U.S. Corps, of Engineers, in 1880.
- The image area measures 33 x 37.5 cn [13" x 14¾"], and
details include soundings and the location of breakers.
- Among the specific named places and features are Clatsop
Spit, Fort Stevens, Sand Island Beacons, Point Adams, Peacock Spit,
McKinzie's Head, and the Cape Hancock Lighthouse, which later reverted to its
earlier name, Cape Disappointment Lighthouse.
- This is an original, authentic antique map, not a
reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be
genuine. It was published in a report to Congress by the Board of
Engineers
for Fortifications and River and Harbor Improvements, February 12, 1881.
- Condition: It is in very good condition, with no
marks, rips, or tears.
It folds to 9" x 6" and is blank on the back, with no printing on the
reverse side. It is printed on a lightweight paper, which has stiffened
and toned slightly with age. You will want to handle it with care, as
you would any antique document. Please see the scans and feel free to
ask any questions.
