“Dinosaurs” is a label that fits The Who like almost no other band. In 1965, their first worldwide hit single “My Generation” took them right into the history books of rock. Another historic event was The Who’s presentation of “Happy Jack” in 1966, the first so-called “concept album” in rock music (“Sergeant Pepper” came later). 1970 saw their release of “Tommy”, the first rock opera ever. Today, The Who continue to be one of the most influential bands in music history. Though two original band members died from drug addiction, the band continues to sell out the largest venues and stadiums during their occasional tour, despite constant quarreling between two obstinate mules: Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend. Zak Starkey doesn’t only play the drums like Keith Moon did, he is the new Keith Moon. The songs – most of them over thirty years old – shine brighter and sound fresher than ever before, some of them newly enhanced with brilliant jazzy-bluesy middle parts. The live show plays smartly with images and feelings from the Sixties and the Mod scene. Those who might have noticed some scratches in Roger Daltrey’s voice ten years ago will be surprised that he’s singing like a young god again. And what about Townsend? In places, he plays softer and more slurring than he used to. That said, his windmilling right arm still ends with the best and the hardest strumming hand in the guitar universe.

Great DVD filmed in Yokohama July 2004. Great picture and sound quality. Concert edited down to just under one and a quarter hours and 14 songs. A shame it wasn't the full concert but still a great addition to any collection. Pete Townshend greatly enjoyed this tour of Japan and ended this concert by sacrificing a guitar in a smashing finale. The product description listed on Amazon was a bit garbled and unclear so I bought this as a gamble. But the track listing given was accurate and although nearly all were standard 'Greatest Hits' available on any concert footage, they were given a great outing at this concert and 'Real Good Looking Boy' and 'Old Red Wine' were the new songs at that time and not often available on DVD. I was delighted with this addition to my collection.
