Victorian Antique General Store Black Cast Iron Hanging String/Twine Holder and Dispenser
Many years ago, cast iron string holders, like this one, were popular in general stores, businesses and even in households to keep their string and/or twine organized and manageable. In the round form, this cage style with openings surrounding the holder, made it easier to keep the string neat and tidy and allowed the user to see when it was time to reload the string. Its intricate floral designs on the top and bottom made this a decorative and useful tool. The metal hanger not only suspended the dispenser from a hook, rack or a table top cast iron holder but also locked the top and bottom pieces together to secure the strings it held. These were made of cast iron and built to last. This could very easily be hung in a home or business and be as functional as it was when it was first made.
This dispenser weighs about 1 lb 2 oz and measures roughly 8.5 inches by 6 inches, this measurement includes the metal hanger.
