Germanium Fuzz with “Thermal Bias Control”

Germanium Fuzz is a Germanium Fuzz with "Thermal Bias Control".

It uses two germanium transistors, 2N527 and 2N404, and is designed using 60's Fuzz circuit theory to maximize their potential. In addition, it is equipped with the "Thermal Bias Control" function, which is a feature of this machine.

●“Thermal bias control” function brings out the best sound

Germanium transistors are very sensitive and the bias between the capacitors changes depending on the temperature of the capacitor. When this machine is turned on, the heater automatically and gently warms the condenser to the appropriate temperature. Therefore, you can get the best performance regardless of the outside temperature. Since you need to wait until the temperature reaches the appropriate temperature, it takes 2 to 3 minutes after turning on the power until you can start using it.

After powering on, the LED will turn orange. This is a "warming up" display, increasing the hFE (transistor gain) to the specified value and adjusting the bias to get the correct voltage. When the temperature reaches the appropriate temperature, the heater will turn off and the LED will turn green, indicating that it is ready.

The LED may go back and forth between orange and green during operation, but this is not a malfunction. Operate the heater as necessary to keep the circuit at the correct temperature.
This unit is designed to operate normally at a temperature of approximately 37.8°C. As a result of our tests, we were so particular about the temperature that we chose white as the color of the case because under direct sunlight, the internal temperature of a white case was approximately 7 degrees Celsius lower than that of a black case.

●IMPEDANCE control and class A buffer

The IMPEDANCE knob controls the input impedance. At low settings, even at high gain settings, you can get a tight sound similar to when the guitar's volume is turned down. However, if the impedance setting is originally low, it will have a negative effect on the sound when a buffer or other effector is connected in front of it. So we added a class A buffer to the input section. This buffer uses a passive pickup simulator circuit similar to Jack Orman (the world's first guitarist who created a compact effect pedal), which uses audio transistors as induction coils, resistors, and capacitors. I am.

This buffer eliminates problems that occur when connecting to other effectors, and allows connections that were previously considered impossible, such as connecting a booster to the front.

●GAIN range

This unit allows you to create a wide range of sounds, from clean boost to overdrive to aggressive fuzz with rich octave overtones. By combining GAIN and IMPEDANCE, the sound variations are endless. In particular, the unique IMPEDANCE control solves the problem of not feeling like a fuzz unless you turn up the gain.

●Caution regarding power supply

〇Please use a 9V DC (center negative) power supply, such as BOSS's PSA-100. Never connect a power source other than 9V as this may cause damage.

〇Consumption current (current) is less than 100mA even when driving the heater, but please do not use a power adapter that supplies significantly less than 100mA. The heater threshold may malfunction, causing the LED to run out of control or making an oscillating sound.

〇It is not compatible with battery power.
