Up for sale is this vintage Peavey TG Raxx Tube Guitar Preamp. Tested and fully functional. This unit is clean and sounds great. This preamp looks to be all original except for the knobs. Even still has the original Peavey labeled 12AX7 tubes in it.

The knobs work but are a little bigger than the pot shafts so they can still turn past the end point once the pot gets to 0 or 10. I would recommend putting a set of the proper sized knobs on it but other than that it is ready to go.

Unit does not come with any rack ears. Rack ears would be needed in order to rack this preamp into a rack box. I’ve just used a rack mount shelf (RACK MOUNT SHELF NOT INCLUDED) and set this preamp on it and it worked fine for sitting in my rack but my rack never moves.

Such an insanely underrated preamp. But, so much of the 80's and early 90's Peavey stuff was seriously overlooked. I’ve had quite a lot of fun playing around with this preamp over the years, but now's it's time to let it go. It has a surprising amount of versatility. It's basically the no-frills, baby brother of the RockMaster tube preamp.

“Peavey has produced a large quantity of rack gear during the eighties and the nineties. The TG Raxx was the company's first instrument tube preamp (before the Rockmaster and TubeFex).

This is a guitar preamp and there was a bass version called the TB Raxx differing only from a handful of component values.

Although it is a single channel, it features two three band EQs: a passive one at the beginning of the preamp and an active one at the end of the signal chain. Thanks to this unusual configuration, it is surprisingly versatile as it can give convincing results either for pristine-clean sounds or over saturated nu-metal type tones. All the sounds bear the Peavey signature (think Peavey Ultra and Triple XXX)”
