For sale is an excessively Eleventh Edition of A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens. Published by Bradbury and Evans, 1845. 166p.p., plus the publisher’s advertisement leaf. Four handcoloured plates by John Leech. Collated as complete.

This edition is the first edition to be printed by Bradbury and Evans, on Dickens moving to publication from Chapman and Hall (who also printed an Eleventh Edition).

Bound in the publisher’s original cloth. The title in gilt to the spine, and decoration in gilt to the upper board. Original yellow endpapers. All page edges gilt.

Externally, this binding is in largely sound order; the cloth fresh and the gilt also. Rubbing and losses to the hinges, and occasional extraneous shelfwear. Marking to the boards. The hinges remain firm.

Internally, it is delightfully fresh and clean, and one couldn’t wish for a better example.

Overall, we cannot more highly recommend this charming volume; A Christmas Carol is one of the finest and most popular works of fiction of the C19th, and a must-have for the collector and enthusiast alike.
