This is a finely rendered Antique 19th c Old Dutch Tonalist Nautical Ship Seascape Oil Painting on Artist Board, depicting a 19th century Dutch schooner moored along a calm shoreline. Several deckhands can be seen toiling about the vessels, while two figures carry long and carry buckets of shellfish in their arms, to the left of the scene. A vivid tonalist golden hued sky permeates the scene, which reflects upon the waters and shoreline. This artwork is rendered in a vivid and refined Luminist manner and is signed: "H. Van Houghton" in the lower left corner. I could not find any biographical information on this immensely talented turn of the century painter, but perhaps you know more about them or their work? This piece likely dates to the 1880's - 1910's. Approximately 12 x 15 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 9 x 12 inches. Good condition for over a century of age and storage, with moderate - heavy scuffing, edge wear and material loss to the original hand carved gilded wood frame, and several small scuffs and speckles of paint loss and soiling to the painted surface (please see photos carefully.) Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
