Silver Aesthetic Locket By Adie & Lovekin Hallmarked Sterling Silver Birmingham 1884 on a Silver Aesthetic Book Chain Necklace 17.5"

An outstanding duo comprising a Victorian Silver locket with a Victorian Silver fancy Chain, each of the highest quality in terms of both manufacture and design.  The locket is a superb example of its type, decorated to the front with a raised central oval set with an eight-rayed star, studded throughout with faceted silver "jewels" within a fancy etched diamond pattern border, the oval having a rope-twist outer band and the external border of the locket consisting of large, faceted silver "jewels", each intersected by 4 graduated silver balls.  It is absolutely stunning, unlike any I have seen before and if that wasn't enough, the reverse is sublimely decorated with intricately chased flowers and ferns in a gorgeous pattern which, by design or happy accident, has a zoomorphic quality as it resembles a hare or rabbit.  As the design is so well thought through, one has to think this was consciously done, and is just one more element to this incredible locket, which bristles with Aesthetic motifs and designs.

Stunning is a word much used on this site, with varying degrees of accuracy, but in this case, there is really no other word for this incredible piece.  In addition, the chain is also utterly beautiful, with the chunky, ribbed circular links having flat silver trefoil sections attached all along the chain, each is engraved with a central flower, with the leaves extending to each of the three lobes and polished to the reverse.  A large silver spring ring connects the two ends of the chain to the large bail on the locket.  When worn, this piece looks and feels amazingly regal.  An absolutely staggering, fully antique locket and chain of unparalleled beauty.

The best example we have ever seen.
