A handsome 1939 copy of a wonderful edition, in the scarce dust jacket! Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allan Poe, with illustrations by Harry Clarke. Published in 1939 by Tudor Publishing Company. Clarke's finely detailed renditions of scenes from these classic tales capture the truly eerie vibe of these macabre stories by the master of horror, Edgar Allan Poe. All the illustrated plates are present, including 8 tipped in color plates.

The book, measuring appx. 8.5 x 11 inches, is in Very Good+ condition in clean black boards with a striking illustrated title label to the front cover and gilt to the spine. There are minimal signs of wear at the spine head and tail and the bottom corners are bumped. There's a previous owner's inscription to the half-title page dated 1941. The tipped-in colored frontispiece is becoming unglued but could easily be reattached. Text block is generally clean with just a touch of age-toning. The scarce dust jacket rates in Good- condition with significant edge chipping, especially to the rear panel, yet the lettering and masterful artwork by Clarke is mostly unaffected

Quite a nice example of this wonderful book production in its scarce original dust jacket.
