PICASSO
Avigdor ARIKHA (1929-2010)

Astonished self-portrait

Painter and engraver born in Romania in 1929. Avigador Arikha moved to Paris in 1954. After starting out as a figurative painter, followed by an abstract period, he returned to figuration in 1965. A draftsman and pastel artist, he began engraving in 1950 and found in lithography, as in intaglio, the same quivering light which bathes all his subjects. The most frequent themes in this work are the objects of the workshop, everyday life and portraits as here in the work that we are offering you. Arikha is considered one of the greatest portrait painters of his generation.
