Orphee, electronic PDF copy English National Opera London Coliseum programme, elegant and stylish programme for 2019/20 Autumn Season.  Has photos and relevant informed articles about the recent production and the music and history of this Philip Glass opera, based on the film by Jean Cocteau.

This production had interesting use of photo montage, and the performers wore 1950's costumes.  Quite Daliesque in part, in keeping with the surrealist interpretation of the story.  Also interesting walking on and off in silhouette by the performers and use of numbers and texts on the set.  Also an interesting shooting episode in the performance.

For a contemporary production, this was like with the Mask of Orpheus, much more effective than the earlier two Orpheus performances of Orpheus & Eurydice and Orpheus in the Underworld, both of which received extremely mixed reviews.

The orchestral playing by the English National Opera orchestra was good, conducted by Geoffrey Patterson, along with the singing with Nicholas Lester as Orphee, Sarah Tynan as Eurydice, and the other performers, which was sung in English translation.
