Netherlands New Guinea stamps were not issued for long. Western New Guinea became the focus of a political dispute between the Netherlands and Indonesia following the recognition of Indonesian independence. Indonesia claimed the territory as its own, but the Dutch maintained that the residents were not Indonesian, so the Netherlands would continue to administer the territory. On October 1, 1962, an agreement was reached stipulating that administration would pass to the United Nations Temporary Executive Authority (UNTEA).  This set of nineteen stamps (as wall as some postal stationery items) were then issued by the UN.

Set includes stock album page plus original UNTEA envelope.
