For sale is this incredibly rare rolled tin-sheet manuscript with Sanskrit like words carved on one side. This piece is especially unique in that it was found in the wreckage of a shipwreck in Indonesia. This piece dates back to the Majapahit Empire that existed in Indonesia (and surrounding areas) from 1293-1527 AD. Majapahit was an empire of 98 tributaries, stretching from Sumatra to New Guinea; consisting of present day Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, southern Thailand, Timor Leste, and the southwestern Philippines. Majapahit was one of the last major Hindu-Buddhist empires of the region and is considered to be one of the greatest and most powerful empires in the history of Indonesia and Southeast Asia. This piece is a small roll of flattened tin, that has some letters etched in (almost as if someone would have taken a nail and carved it in crudely). The letters are very difficult to make out, and are very light. It almost looks like someone needed to take a fast note and carved it into the soft tin. The piece is rolled as it has been for centuries. This piece was recovered in the Musi river around Java from the wreckage of a small boat. This is an incredible rare manuscript, and would be a great research piece, gift, teaching tool, display piece, or addition to any collection! Don’t pass it up!
