Antique Solid Wood Door
w/5 Horizontal Panels

* Please note that the 24"x74"  in the title is just an estimate. The door is not exactly that size. Please see "Dimensions" below.

Elegant, antique interior door salvaged from an old, home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir or pine and has 5 raised panels on both sides. The door is painted on both sides.

When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft  wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have  the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities  that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old  have. Old pine is also  much harder and stronger than young pine.

Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of  hardware to outfit it (check out our eBay store).

* If you would like the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.

Quirks & Considerations:

The width of the door was unevenly cut by 1/4". The cut was most likely made to accommodate a warped floor or sagging foundation. We could cut the door to an even 23 3/4", or cut it narrower/shorter, or even build it up to be wider/taller--message us for a quote.

The door has 1 split panel (see last photo). Expansion and contraction occurs naturally due to changes in temperature, and  the cracks are just a result of this process over the course of many years. It  may sound funny, but when the panel expanded and reached its limits within its openings or frames; it was unable to stretch out any further, and ultimately cracked in the center to relieve their stress or tension.

ConditionConsidering the door is well over 100 years old, it is strong, sturdy  and in great condition. It only has nicks and scratches, but no breaks,  cracks, gouges or any other serious issues. The door has a break on the exterior side of the lock-stile (see 4th photo). Most of the blemishes that it has will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".

Swing: The  door is set up to swing into a room towards the left, or away from a room towards the right. We can modify the door to swing in the opposite direction--message  us for a quote.

Modification: Do you want to replace the panels with glass, screen/mesh, or something  else? We could modify the doors to fit your opening or suite your needs. Trim or add to the height or width,  reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a  small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a  quote.
