Grow Indoors

To grow Thai holy basil indoors. It can be planted all year round. It grows best in pots of general purpose compost.

Growing Outdoors

Thai holy basil is a tender herb and prefers daytime temperatures of around 25 degrees C but can withstand night-time temperatures of 10 degrees C and above.

Therefore, the herb must be planted after the first frost of the year (April on-wards) and takes 80 days to flower.

Once established the herb requires very little care and enjoys direct sunlight.  A general purpose fertilizer should be used.

Harvesting

Once established, the leaves can be removed for use.  The removal of flowers will promote the growth of more leaves and prevent the leaves from gaining a bitter taste.
