GLORIOUS ANTIQUE INLAID MAHOGANY COVENTRY ASTRAL CHIMING MANTEL CLOCK c1910 GWO

Its wonderful shape, fabulous colour, beautiful finish and superb inlays, make for a really handsome, eye-catching piece. From its balled brass feet, through to its canted corners, up to is domed top, its all beautifully in proportion, with the burr walnut inlay and boxwood stringing just adding more to more. To either side are pierced fret work sound panels, backed with rich, red cloth. It stands 12 1/2 inches high, 9 inches wide and just 6 inches deep. 

Set into this glorious backdrop is the silvered dial, sitting behind its cast brass bezel and convexed bevelled glass. Strong blued steel hands complete a handsome face. At the heart of the clock beats the quality, 8 day, platform movement made by Coventry Astral (their "key" logo is stamped into the movement). They were in business from 1871 until their take over in 1930s. This clock would date to c1910. The platform means this clock will run on any surface, level or not, without the fuss of setting it in beat. The clock strikes the half and full hour on a single gong that has a lovely rich sound to it. It is in good working order, keeping good time and sounding a treat, complete with a key.
