Striking
Japanese Kutani Ginsai pale blue vase by Kazuo Nakata,
born in 1949 in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture (the home of Kutani ware). This
unique work was made using a technique called ‘yuuri ginsai’ (underglaze
silver), whereby silver leaf is pasted under the glaze to create an elegant contemporary
style, reminiscent of pale flowers shining on a moonlit night. Measures ca 21cm
high x 20cm diameter.
Excellent
as new condition in tomobako (wooden box).
Kazuo Nakata is a student of Living National Treasure Tokuda Yasokichi III
(1933-2009) and has won many awards over the years. His works are displayed in many
prestigious museums, both in Japan and abroad, including the Ishikawa
Prefectural Museum, the Smithsonian and the Sackler Museum (both USA).
