“‘Closeness’ Duets” is an album recorded and released in 1976 on the A&M/Horizon Records label. This CD is another gem I found in my collection as I prepared to move. A rare unopened copy of the Japanese manufactured CD.

Charlie Haden, who died in 2014, created something—if not rare—at least a bit unusual with “Closeness” by clearly sharing the spotlight with four outstanding musical talents. Joining Haden are Keith Jarrett, Ornette Coleman, Alice Coltrane and Paul Motian. For this session, each guest becomes the co-creator of a particular track. Jarrett lends his Piano talents to “Ellen David”, Ornette Coleman offers his talents on Alto Sax for “O.C.”, Alice Coltrane on Harp for "For Turiya,” Paul Motian, percussion, on “For A Free Portugal”.   Four duets, each of them long enough to encourage interplay and improvisation by these amazing talents.

Produced by Ed Michel, the album was recorded and mixed at Generation Sound Studios, in New York in 1976.

Please note: I have NOT played this CD but the clear plastic flap on the front of the package is a bit lifted away from the seal. I can only assume that this is due to the packing and shipping over 40 years to and from my various stops (Chicago,  Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco).

Please note: This CD will be shipped for $5 to addresses in the continental United States. $10 more for addresses in Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. territories. Shipping to addresses outside of the United States or its territories at seller's discretion and at purchasers' expense.
